Courses after Class XII

Diploma in Education (D.Ed.)

Overview: DIET is responsible for diploma course in education. Candidates with at least 50% marks in the higher secondary (+2) or its equivalent examination are eligible for admission.

Duration: The D.Ed. programme shall be of a duration of two (2) academic years. However, the students shall be permitted to complete the programme within a maximum period of three years from the date of admission to the programme.

Options Ahead: After the D.Ed. programme one can join schools as Junior Basic Teachers (JBT) or Nursery Teachers.


Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)

Overview: ECCE is a Diploma level education course which imparts education of meaningful interaction with young children. Anyone who has completed 10+2 level is eligible to enrol in the diploma course.

Duration: The duration of Diploma course in Early Childhood Care Education is 2 years and the most prominent one is that which is accredited by SCERT (State Council for Educational Research & Training, Delhi) while others are accredited by certain universities.

Options Ahead: The course will provide the skills and experience to teach children in the age group of 0-5 years, as nursery teachers.


Nursery Teacher Training (NTT)

Overview: NTT is an undergraduate Educational course. This Diploma course deals with a good preschool curriculum and has the ability to significantly contribute to a child's proper growth. Anyone who has completed 10+2 level is eligible to enrol in the diploma course.

Duration: Generally, the duration of the course is 1 year but it fluctuates place to place. The minimum time to complete the course is also differentiating from institute to institute. The course may also be available on part time basis in some certain institutes.

Options Ahead: The course makes one eligible to teach as a nursery teacher in pre-primary classes.


Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

Overview: The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) is a four-year integrated professional degree programme of Elementary Teacher Education offered after the senior secondary (class XII) stage of school. Candidates seeking admission must have passed the Class XII examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any other Board recognised as equivalent to the CBSE. Selection to this programme is made on the basis of merit secured in entrance examination.

Duration: B.El.Ed is a four-year integrated professional degree programme of Elementary Teacher Education offered after the senior secondary (class XII) stage of school.

Options Ahead: This course prepares teachers for teaching primary (classes I-V), upper primary or middle level (classes VI-VIII) and secondary level (classes IX-X).


Bachelor of Arts Education (B.A.Ed.)

Overview: This course provides complete integration of content (Social Sciences and Humanities) and Pedagogy evenly distributed throughout the duration of the course. Candidates seeking admission to the B.A.Ed. course should have passed CBSE Senior Secondary examination/ Pre-University examination.

Duration: Integrated Programme of Teacher Education titled ‘Bachelor of Arts Education’ (B.A.Ed.) is a degree course. The course will be of four year duration organized on the semester pattern with 2 semesters in a year. Each semester will consist of 16 weeks of instruction excluding examination.

Options Ahead: This course prepares teachers for teaching primary (classes I-V), upper primary or middle level (classes VI-VIII) and secondary level (classes IX-X).


Bachelor of Science Education (B.Sc.Ed.)

Overview: Bachelor of Science Education is a degree in the field of science (major and minor in biology, chemistry, physics, maths) with major Educational courses ,i.e., it is the combination of degree in science and education course. Candidates seeking admission to the B.Sc.Ed. programme should have passed CBSE Senior Secondary examination/ Pre-University examination. (10+2)

Duration: The programme will be of four year duration organized on the semester pattern with 2 semesters in a year. Each semester will consist of 16 weeks of instruction excluding examination.

Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.)

Overview: A Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed ) is a bachelor degree which includes topics such as sport science, coaching, and outdoor education. It is largely suited for sports person or those who have a passion for sports and related activities. Admission to B.P.Ed course shall be done on the basis of Entrance test. Candidates who are above the age of 17 on the first day of July of the year and have passed their 10+2 are eligible.

Duration: The B.P.Ed (Bachelor of Physical Education) has 2 Levels at which this degree is offered. Some Indian Institutes offer a 1 year B.P.Ed. which can be pursued only after graduation (Maximum age should not be more than 25 years).

Options Ahead: Physical Education Degree enables a person to be employed in government sector enterprises or with the private sector that they represent in the sporting event/game in various tournaments and matches.



Courses after Graduation (undergraduate)

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

Overview: B.Ed. is a postgraduate professional degree offered for those who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching and related fields. B.Ed. Admission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or in the entrance examination. It can be done after graduation or post graduation studies.

Duration: The B.Ed programme shall be of a duration of one / two academic years, which can be completed in a maximum of three years from the date of admission to the programme.

Options Ahead: This course prepares teachers for teaching primary (classes I-V), upper primary or middle level (classes VI-VIII) and secondary level (classes IX-X).


Bachelor of Education (Special Education)

Overview: Bachelor of Education in Special Education is an undergraduate Education course. It is meant for preparing teachers for teaching special needs children, such as, children with Hearing Impairment/Mental Retardation/Visual Impairment who are studying in Special Schools or in the General Schools under integrating setting. In order to be eligible, Graduate must be under at least 10+2+3 pattern [including Shastri] with a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in all the subjects in three years & must have at least one School subject at the graduation level.

Duration: The duration of the course is normally one year and it may be provided by some certain institutes on part time basis as well.

Options Ahead: This course prepares teachers for teaching primary (classes I-V), upper primary or middle level (classes VI-VIII) and secondary level (classes IX-X)


Courses after B.Ed.

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

Overview: The Master of Education (M.Ed. , Ed.M. , M.A.Ed. , M.A.E. , M.S.Ed. , M.S.E. , or M.Ed.L.) is a graduate academic degree designed to provide professional advancement to current and aspiring teachers, educators and school professionals. Those who have acquired their B.Ed can pursue their Master's Degree in Education.

Duration: The M.Ed programme shall be of a duration of 2 academic years, which can be completed in a maximum of three years from the date of admission to the programme. It can be pursued either through regular course or through correspondence. The Correspondence course is of 1 year duration.

Options Ahead: It makes one eligible for advanced positions like principal along with K–12 teaching positions.
